You can, in fact, match the Capture One starting point by creating a New Default and have all images adopt this new starting point as they are imported into your Catalog, i.e. ![]() You can create a new default with more ‘Pop” in just a minute. In this movie tutorial Mark Galer demonstrates how you do NOT have to accept the flat Adobe Standard default setting in Lightroom. Many photographers have to come to believe that Capture One is superior program (because it is promoted as such), but the reality is that Lightroom can pretty much match anything that Capture One can achieve in terms of colour and tone. In any case, this is easier and faster than manually recreating the entire preset yourself, and you have more time to adapt the look optimally to your image material. The biggest source of error is already eliminated if all white balance settings are banished from the preset. If the image result differs too much due to the conversion, you can usually adjust it quickly by hand. However, since every image is also exposed differently, and a preset is usually only the starting point for further image processing, small differences are usually irrelevant. In these cases, the values are mapped to another available function according to optical standards, which leads to comparable results in most cases. Many Lightroom features cannot be converted 1:1 to Capture One since there sometimes is no equivalent feature in Capture One. For years, I’ve been expanding my Film presets project, creating presets such as Porta, Fuji 400, Fujifilm. It includes Classic Negative as a Lightroom preset as a Capture One Style a LUT for video, PLUS a couple other presets from Filmist. Some Lightroom functions cannot be reproduced 1:1 in Capture One, because there is not always an equivalent function in Capture One. Because Adobe Lightroom and Capture One are fundamentally different RAW converters, there are some technical hurdles in the conversion process.
